| Students who accumulate absences totaling twenty (20) percent of the total contact time of the class during a term will be dismissed from class with no appeal available. Students dismissed due to absenteeism may reapply for admission at the beginning of the next term.
Each student is responsible for notifying his/her instructor if he/she must leave class before his/her designated class ends. A student who must leave class early must notify his/her instructor prior to departure.
Students will not be excused from class to complete forms, papers, or to tend to financial aid matters. This should be done during lunch, break, or after class.
Appeals
Appeals made for readmission through the appropriate Dean must be made in a timely manner as each class missed puts the student farther behind in class work and jeopardizes possible readmission. Students dismissed due to absences may attend class while an appeal is pending.
The Dean(s) will act promptly upon receipt of the student's appeal for readmission. The student will be allowed to continue in class only if the appeal is approved. The Dean(s) will consider such factors as work ethics, attitude, academic status, and circumstances relevant to each appeal.
In extenuating circumstances, the Vice President for Academic Affairs or Dean(s) may grant excused leave for up to an additional ten (10) percent of scheduled class time during a term. Excused leave requests must be requested in advance by the student's advisor and may be requested at any time regardless of the number of absences. Excused leave will not be calculated into the time accumulated for withdrawal from a program.
Responsibility
The Vice President for Academic Affairs has the overall responsibility for ensuring this policy is implemented. |
