Recent graduates of the Radiologic Technology Program at Southwest Georgia Technical College have recently logged a 100% passing rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Certification Exam.
Passing the exam and receiving their certification were Courtney Sheree Allegood, Brandy Lynn Love, Erica Lavon Miller, Tracy B. Bennett, Thuy-Chi Thi Vu, Shannon Brown Sharp, Kristina Lyn Belangia, Amber Nicole Wilson, William Joel Carter, Ashley Lynn Clement, Mary E. Haley, and David Michael Smith.
According to Wally Waldron, instructor for the Radiologic Technology Program at SWGTC, the passing rate of his students comes as no surprise. “They are a great group of students and have worked very diligently in the program.” The certification exam is comprised of 200 items and has to be completed in a time frame of four hours.
Graduates from the Radiologic Technology Program have enjoyed a 90% job placement rate, another statistic that makes Waldron very proud. “I think the College can be very proud of the quality of students who graduate from here,” he said. “Many of our graduates have gone on to become physician’s assistants and directors of departments and have continued their education and earned more advanced degrees.”
The Radiologic Technologist Program takes seven quarters to complete, after students have first completed their core curriculum. “There is a limit on how many students can enter the program,” Waldron explained. “They must first successfully complete all of their core classes and then apply for admission to the program, and applicants are chosen based upon their GPA.” Graduates from the program can expect a starting salary of $30, 000 to $40,000 a year.
