Southwest Georgia Technical College’s Foundation Board of Trustees will host its 9th Annual Golf Tournament at Glen Arven Country Club on Monday, May 16th with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament is a four-person Fort Lauderdale/ Scramble.
The event is held each year to raise funds for Foundation endeavors such as scholarships, emergency assistance for students, new equipment, and technical upgrades.
“The tournament is a major fundraiser for our Foundation and generates much of the funds we need for student scholarships and equipment purchases,” said Dr. Craig Wentworth, President of SWGTC. “The support we receive from the community for this effort goes a long way to rewarding some of our most exceptional and deserving students with much needed financial assistance, which in turn allows them to meet their educational goals.”
Many areas of the College will benefit from the tournament’s proceeds including Allied Health, Business and Computer Technology, Professional Services, Technical and Industrial Education, and Library Services.
Through the Foundation’s efforts, 25 scholarships for students have been established and more than 450 students have been assisted by the Foundation in total. More than $260,000 has been awarded to students in financial crisis since 1999 through the Foundation’s scholar enabling programs. The Foundation has also been responsible for adding more than $750,000 in technology upgrades to the College’s academic programs.
There are several levels of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and individuals who would like to support the Foundation’s efforts. “This is a wonderful opportunity to aid our entire community by supporting technical education,” Wentworth said.
“We greatly appreciate everyone’s support of technical education and of our College,” said Dr. Wentworth. “Our students benefit tremendously from the funds raised at this annual tournament and we are thankful to have had such strong support from the community in the past. We look forward to continuing that support.”
