Southwest Georgia Technical College held its sixth annual SWGTC Foundation Golf Tournament May 19 at Glen Carven Country Club. The event is held each year to raise funds to provide scholarships to both reward exceptional students and help those students in financial need.
First place team (gross score) this year was the Import Auto Service Team comprised of Stephen Willis, Danny Willis,David Mathews, and Billy Mathews. First Place Net Team was Blue Bell Creameries, represented by Charlie Brown, Ben Prange, Matthew Whelen, and Robert Ouzts. Second Place Net team was Commercial Bank, with Tom Calloway, Steve Powell, and Earl McCabe, and the Third Place Net team honors went to Thomas University with Rick Munroe, Mike Lee, Rick Dondero, and Stephen Cheney.

“The support we receive from the community in this fundraising effort has always been fantastic. We appreciate the players and the businesses and individuals who donate prizes and services towards this effort, which means somuch to our students,” said SWGTC President Dr. Glenn Deibert.
Funds raised by the tournament are this year will be used to provide not only scholarships, but also emergency assistance for students, new equipment purchases and technical upgrades for the tutoring center and on-line education and E-Learning. More than $650,000 in technology upgrades have been provided by the Foundation since 1999 and more than 275 students have received financial assistance due to its fundraising efforts.
