A large crowd braved the heat and the rain showers on Tuesday morning to witness the groundbreaking for the new Health Science Building for Southwest Georgia Technical College. The new building will be erected on the site of the former Toyota dealership on US Highway 19 between existing SWGTC buildings A and D. Plans call for construction of a 52,010 square foot building to begin later this year. According to officials, the building will include a state-of-the-art Virtual Hospital, a large tiered lecture hall, and classrooms and labs for anatomy and physiology, biology, microbiology, physics, and chemistry. Major programs of study occupying the building include: Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, Patient Care Assisting, Land, Forest, and Wildlife Management, and Veterinary Technology.
